An ultrasound scan, also known as sonography, is a safe imaging technique that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the inside of your body. It helps doctors to find the cause of your problem and the best treatment options available for you. The pictures captured by ultrasound are in real-time and show the movement and structure of internal organs and blood as it flows through the vessels.
Why Ultrasound Scanning is performed?
An Ultrasound scan can help physicians diagnose a wide variety of medical conditions and come up with treatment plans.
Most common parts of the body that undergo ultrasound scanning include:
- Heart and blood vessels
- Kidneys
- Liver
- Gallbladder
- Spleen
- Pancreas
- Bladder
- Uterus
- Ovaries
- Scrotum
- Soft Tissues
How is the test performed?
Our sonographer will apply a water-based gel to your skin to prevent air pockets from interfering with the sound waves. It uses a small hand-held device (transducer or wand) against your skin and moves it slowly over the area to examine to get the best images. The sensor sends sound waves into your body, collects the ones that bounce back, and sends them to a computer, which creates the pictures of the inside of your body. These can be seen on a monitor. These scans can typically take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the type of scan you are having.
